Extremely light power supplies are typically poorly made. It weighs a total of 4 lbs 3 oz which implies it’s well built. Similar power supplies that have two 12V rails are usually described as two low quality power supplies put together so I always look for single rail models like this at this wattage level. The #1 best feature of this PSU is the fact that it has one 12V circuit or “rail” that can supply 40 amps. That means at 200 watts this power supply would only output around 24 watts of waste heat, which isn’t bad. It’s about 88% efficient at 50% load though which is quite good. It’s actually more efficient than the 80+ certification (below bronze) suggests but because of specifically how it’s measured, it qualified somewhat low.
There is also a graph that shows the efficiency estimation at given percentage loads. It shows a graph of the estimated decibels from the fan at given wattage draw levels. That helps a ton! There is 1x 8 pin CPU, 2x 6/8 pin PCI-E graphics adapter, 7x SATA, 2x Molex, 1x 4-pin floppy connectors. The top of the box shows exactly the quantity of each connector type. Pros: The box clearly states the specs like wattage, 3 year warranty, and a large picture of the product. This is likely one of the shortest reviews I’ve written in a long time… It is less than what I expected, I would not recommend this model based off of my experience with it. Sometimes I wish Newegg allowed pictures in the reviews so I could share these issues with you in pictures. And I’m sure some Corsair fanboys reading a condemning review hope that of me ) ) (By the way, unless you know what you are doing never open a PSU you could hurt/kill yourself. Overall Review: I will use it as an experiment to educate myself further on PSU’s by dissecting it… so it will serve a purpose to me just not the one it was intended for. Maybe someone was placing it aside at the factory and it accidentally made its way in to box, journeyed its way to COI California, and was offered (unfortunately for Corsair) as an item to review. Hopefully this is an isolated issue with the one I received to review. So while I was looking for that number I noticed the inductor coils on one inductor was horribly damaged in appearance… What is going on with this? What garbage did they wrap up, slap a label on and start selling to people? This isn’t the company I know. I’m also not familiar with this OEM myself but they have been in business a while according to what I could find. I don’t believe them to be the assembler of this unit but it is all I could find. All I could find was one on the PCB (E88653) which is a Chinese company that manufactures PCB (printed circuit boards) Dongguan Wannienfu Electronic. Upon further inspection I peered in to find a UL number to attempt to identify the origin of this PSU. A slip in quality assurance can be damaging to even a strong reputation like that of Corsairs. And how are you to prove it wasn’t you? That is unacceptable, especially from a brand that carries itself on the back of the fans and consumers who love Corsair. I was making notes about the three year warranty among other things before opening, how great is that? That’s a pretty decent warranty…but here comes the kick in the pants moment, when you realize your warranty is void right out of a sealed box because that (mentioned above) happened. The Corsair label on the shroud of the PSU that advises ‘Warranty Void If Removed’ was clearly cut and not intact as if the PSU shroud had been reopened after the warranty label had been affixed and prior to the PSU being sealed in the consumer packaging… As I was examining I saw something that looked wrong immediately. I removed the wrap myself and pulled it out of the box. I received this item, wrapped in plastic, sealed as if plucked off of the shelf. Let’s start this downhill review from the unboxing process. Over-voltage protection, under-voltage protection, short circuit protection, over power protection, and over temperature protection provide maximum safety to your critical system componentsĪdditional Information Date First AvailableĬons: I love budget stuff, it’s what I do… Good names, with a good price to match, but sometimes even when we expected the best deal we are left disappointed even with a trusted company like Corsair.
